I read this book, and thought it was a good introduction into web databases. Yeah, the info is not up-to-date, but it still has a lot of usful information for the web database newbie.
Forget All The Negative Reviews You Will Learn Something!

This book despite all the bad reviews comes thru perfectly for those only wishing to get a website up and running. While a brief overview of databases is required, for the vast majority not wishing to have a complete history and esoteric description of obscure programming calls will find this a good start. Programmers frankly are not the only ones in need of a good overview of how to make a database work on the Web. The mystique of ORACLE also falls apart when the reader finally realizes that ACCESS and Cold Fusion are perfect for small business applications. A carpenter doesn't build kitchen cabinets with a sledge hammer neither is ORACLE the only tool useable for a web database. For all the ORACLE propeller heads out there definitely go out and pay $95.00 and be confused for 6 months trying to impress yourself and your friends that you paid $95 and still don't know how to put a web database online! After reading this book you will be one of the few who can actually put a website and database together. This books deserves 6 bottles of beer and five stars if for no other reason you can put it on the coffee table and not be identified with the dummies/idiot group of computer users.
Step-By-Step Couldn't Be Much Easier

I'm not a programmer and I really don't want to be. All I needed was a book to show me exactly how to set up a database that would allow the catalog pages on my website to be created on the fly. My website, MagicTricks.Com, is the largest online source of information on magic, magic history, magicians and their amazing feats. The site also features a huge online shop of professional magic supplies. Until I read this book, I was forced to create separate, static HTML pages for each of the 1000+ items in the shop. That's a LOT of work! This book showed me exactly how to set up a database of the products, a template web page and the system for allowing custom web pages to be created for the products, depending on what the visitor wanted to see. The only caution is that you need this book plus the Microsoft Access program plus the Cold Fusion program. If you can read HTML, you can do this!
