The Free CRE 6.2 manual is electronic and works only on PCs - which is why I bought the hard copy. I found it to be tremendously useful as this was my first shopping cart.
A valuable reference tool for your CRELoaded ecommerce site

If you're venturing into the brave new world of e-commerce using the feature-packed resources of CRE Loaded without this book you better have a good friend who knows the application, or be willing to pay for the technical support necessary to squeeze all of the power out CRELoaded. Kerry Watson's "CRE Loaded 6.2 Users Manual" is written in ENGLISH, not English for computer programmers. Ms. Watson is not only familiar with the application, but also the questions that are most common when new entrepreneurs use CRE Loaded for their e-commerce solution. This manual is highly recommended. Also know that since the manual is printed on-demand, when you buy it you're getting the latest and greatest version with the most recent updates.

I have had this book for about a month now and it is great. I refer to this book atleast once a week if not more while working on my osC store. I would recommend this book to anyone starting out with CRE Loaded for their osC store. Thank you Kerry for writing this book. It's definitley saved me from searching forums to find the answers I need. Karen =)

As a programmer, I'm almost ashamed to admit that I'm rather bland. I'm not a designer - I just make a Website do things. I happened across this particular book by accident and I'm glad I purchased it. True to its claim, programming skills are not a requirement. The book steps you through everything you need to know. It describes what has to be done and what can be skipped (it even makes suggestions as to what is best unused). The book is rather thick, but it's not intimidating. The content is in sections so, if a certain feature isn't needed, it can be skipped. The beginning of the book contains chapters on how to use HTML editors, FTP and other utilities so beginners will be able to get started in a big way. It even tells of what kind of host to look for and things that the server should have. The reader is walked through the installation of the store in step-by-step fashion. It covers not only the installation, but the configuration of the store, payment, shipping and a host of other necessities. Nothing is overlooked. If a reader has a question about a certain payment or shipping method, there's a description for it - what it is and how it's used. The book also contains disaster recovery schemes so that the store can be recovered easily after a disaster. CRE Loaded has extras built in and all of those extras (known as 'contribs') are described in detail. There was some information in the book that I hadn't seen before - at least not all in one place. Having worked on a non-CRE store or three in the past, I've often run into the frequent questions, on forums, for help on how to set up a download feature in an osCommerce store. Answers varied, but most dealt with suggestions on how to add a contrib. Many people shy away from database changes and code modifications. In this book, I found complete, step-by-step instructions on how to successfully set up a download section. The instructions worked, not only on CRE, but on a brand-new installation of a "stock," basic, non-CRE store! I haven't found such complete instructions on osCommerce FAQ pages. The book includes a client checklist - a list of questions that concern the makeup and design of the store. The client checklist by itself is invaluable. It has the questions a client should answer before a store is launched. It allows the client to further envision the kind of store they want and, with the answers, the designer or programmer has all the information needed to create the store right, the first time (resulting in a huge savings for the client). A side effect is that I learned how to look at coding projects differently. I ask different questions and, as a result, I write more effective code and in less time. The book has a conversational style to it, which I enjoy. I can read the book if I'm away from a computer and know for a fact that I can make something work when I get back to work on a store, or was given an idea that I wanted to try out. Once in awhile, however, I had a quest
It's not "make money without working"

I own this book and refer to it every week in running my online store. For me, the beginning chapters were especially useful: making good product photos, how to upload files to my web host, and using Dreamweaver. They aren't really part of the CRE Loaded program but they helped me to run my store a whole lot easier. I didn't install my own store but that's because the installation chapter opens with how to get it installed for free by a CRE web host. That alone was worth the price of the book to me. I recommend this book to anyone who wants to start their own business on the web. It's not "make money with no work." The program takes a little time and commitment, but I promise you, this book makes it as easy as possible to understand. There is a lot to it and you don't have to do it all at first. Just don't rush yourself, don't try to work on it when you are tired or frustrated. It will be well worth it.
