People over complicate a process that is in actuality very simple and basic. It is important to have the basic fundamentals in check before you'll be able to spread out and continue expansion. I have read this wonderfully inspiring book on how to not over complicate MLM's and Direct Sales. Chad has done a wonderful job of explaining how this is not all that complicated, but rather quit simple. I highly recommend this book if you want to succeed with your Direct Sales or MLM opportunity.
