Book Overview

In the fall of 1998, George Cantor and his wife sent off their 18-year-old daughter Courtney to the University of Michigan as a freshman. Six weeks later, the university called Cantor to claim her corpse. Courtney fell from her 6th-floor dormitory window after being served drinks illegally at a fraternity party. In Cantor's grief over losing Courtney, he sank into a bitter and prolonged depression that led him to question the value of his own life...

Courtey's Legacy speaks to all who have lost a child

As a fellow author and one who has lost two sons to Muscular Dystrophy, I understand the feelings George Cantor writes about. It is a sad but wonderfully written book by a talented writer who speaks for all of us who have had our hearts turned inside out by the death of a child. It one of the best of this genre that I have read. Rosalie Kramer. "Dancing in the Dark: Things My Mother Never Told Me"

Very touching

I read this book in one sitting simply because I could not put it down. As a student at U of M, where Courtney attended, I knew about what happened and was curious to hear the story from the family point of view. It takes a lot of courage for her father to tell this story and it brought me to tears. I highly rcommend this book to all and take in some of the lessons that these people had to learn the hard way.

a story from home

this book touched me in a way that it will not touch others. i went to andover with courtney, in fact she was my brothers date for prom. so as i read this book pictures of courtney ran through my mind. so nights after reading this book i could not fall asleep because of what i had read, and others i did not want to because i wanted to read more. what a great book i hope that more people will read it and find out just how fragile life really is.

A Deeply Moving Journey

I read this book in one sitting. Even though there were lots of tears, I found it to be a rich chronicle of how the human spirit can triumph over the worst of tragedies. It took courage to tell this story but readers will find it deeply rewarding. I recommend this book to anyone who has suffered a loss or is sensitive to the needs to those who have.

A Life-Affirming Experience

I had heard of this book and was interested, but frankly, I thought reading about the death of a young woman and its effect on people who knew her, was not an easy read. I am very glad I persevered because I found it a joyous book of Courtney's life and a reaffirmation of the values we hold most dear. The book is more than that. I was reminded of the movie based on true events, "Missing." In that story, a deeply patriotic father has to come to terms with his beliefs when he learns the U.S. was lying to him and was indirectly involved in the disappearance and death of his son in South America. In "Courtney's Legacy" this journalist father is on the other end of the media barrage when tragedy strikes.I was deeply touched by this book and highly recommend it to anyone who has a child or has experienced loss in their life.
