A Helpful Book for Classroom Projects or Student Costume Design
Published by Thriftbooks.com User , 16 years ago
This book is very well-suited for middle school students who need to find or make costumes for school projects or plays. Almost every page has drawings and illustrations of period clothing, hair, head pieces, and shoes based on historical research. It covers a 3000 year span from Ancient Eqypt to the Late Roman Empire. Separate chapters specifically describe costuming in Egypt, Ethiopia, Biblical dress, Babylon and Assyria, Persia and Media, Greece, Rome, Ancient Britain, and Roman Britain. There is a very easy to follow set of drawings that show how a Doric chiton (the mantle worn by Ancient Greeks) can easily be made by folding cloth and pinning in a few spots. I found this book very useful and engaging for my middle school language arts and drama students, who used it as a resource in completing interdisciplinary history/language arts projects, costumes for plays, and costume design projects.
