Cosmo is about 4 years old and lives in the heart of New York; his family owns and runs an Italian restaurant called the New Port Alba. On this special day Cosmo will be allowed to help in the restaurant for the first time. We accompany him and his father as they buy produce and receive deliveries of food for the evening. We meet his mother, brother and the cook as they go about their jobs of accounting, waiting and bussing tables and putting together the mouthwatering specialty dishes for the evening. Brimming over with enthusiasm, Cosmo begins to pass out the menus and is greeted by longtime customers and friends of the family. This book is the only book I have found to tell my kindergarten class about the workings of a career in restaurant management. It would be super if the author could revisit the restaurant, this time with color photos. The photos in the original book are in black and white, but are plentiful and large, and still capture the fun and warmth of the Sammarone family business. I recommend this to any teacher!
