Published by Thriftbooks.com User , 15 years ago
Cornstalks and Cannonballs is a 46 page children's book that takes a look at the history of Lewes, DE. Children will learn how the local town's people came together to outwit & defeat the English Navy using their intellect, farm tools, and cornstalks. It shows how men, women and children came together as a team to help save their small town. It is a nice way to learn some history about the War of 1812, the town of Lewes, DE and at the same time learn a lesson in teamwork. It is a short read with rather large print & some black and white photo sketches. It MAY not be an EASY read for younger readers since it does contain some larger words such as revoluntionary, lighthouse, tomorrow, vegetables, knitting, fishermen, grandfathers, grandmothers, and cannonballs. However, it is a good read for grade school children.
