Once a library rental, we now own it.

We rented this book from the library when I was pregnant with my second child. My son instantly loved it and I really think it helped him understand that he was going to be getting a new baby soon. We returned the book to the library and about 3 months later my 2 yr old asked for Cornelius...constantly, so we ended up purchasing the book. 8 months after getting his new baby sister, he still enjoys reading this book (and the rest of the Cornelius P Mud books).

wonderful book for bedtime

Mama pig had her new baby in her arms. She had her burping towel over her arm and he was fast asleep resting his little head on it. She looked over at her older boy, Cornelius P. Mud, who was trying to stand on his head and read a book and told him she wanted him to meet someone. His eyes widened and he began to ask his Mama lots of questions all the while imagining the baby would be all ready to do things with him. "Can he play?" Cornelius imagined them inside their own block desks blowing bubbles at each other. "No, not yet!" Mama's eyes widened and she clutched the new baby just a bit closer. He imagined them playing telephone with two cans with a string between them. Gab, gab, gab, gab, gab! "No, not yet!" If he could walk, Cornelius could be a circus ringmaster with a top hat presenting his baby brother about to walk a tightrope. "No, not yet!" It was obvious this baby wasn't going to be much fun. Gee, maybe that new baby brother could sit in his highchair and eat pizza that he fed him from the arm of a truck he drove. Yum, yum! "No, not yet!" This was getting very bad. It was about time to send that new baby brother back where he came from. Just what could this baby do anyway? This was an adorable story that any child with a new, kind of useless, new baby brother or sister could relate to. Of course every new parent of a second child is often at a loss as to what to tell the first child about a new baby, especially if he or she is jealous and resentful of the attention given this little stranger. The artwork is vibrant and very colorful. This is a wonderful book to introduce a new baby to his or her new sibling. The sentence "Do you love him more than you love me?" speaks volumes. Of course a bit of humor goes a long way and a few giggles will help ease the tension of change in the household.

Our Toddler Loves Cornelius

We own the boardbook of Cornelius P. Mud Are You Ready for Bed? and it is one of our daughter's top favorite books to read every night. We've read it probably a few hundred times by now, and I've never gotten tired of it because of the clever, funny illustrations. This book did not let us down, and my daughter enjoys reading it and pointing at the funny things Cornelius imagines the baby doing. The illustrations are fantastic and the book describes the impression of being an older brother and how he understands what a baby means to him. We love this book!
