Corduroy Roads

Corduroy Roads is a true story of the touring trip taken by the Pollard family in 1909. They traveled the length of the state of California in a covered wagon and a buggy along unpaved roads to Oregon from their home in Thermal. The route they traveled was what is now known as Highway 101. Their return home took them inland on what we know now as Highway 99.You not only hear the voice of fourteen-year-old Enola, but also that of her sister, Harriet, and many other Pollard relatives. You will find stories written about their parents' lives in the late 1800s.This Pollard story is of a family growing through adversity and threatening surroundings while accepting their Indian neighbors. Their story shows the cohesiveness with in the family unit and the parent's success in passing on their pioneer values to their children.
