The book Corazon de España is a well written Spanish text for the intermediate student of Spanish. The text has a dictionary in the back and each page has notes to help the language learner understand the literal meaning of the text. Almost all of the works are from the classics of Spanish literature. It starts with an excellent handling of "El Mio Cid", and then proceeds through "El conde Lucanor" and the "Romances". From there the author takes to Granada and "Zegries y abencerrajes" for some real blood and glory. It is a wonderful time to mix in the Geographic's history of the music of Spain. The book actually inserts part of the poem with adequate translation for the students to get a feel of the original work. "Lazarillo de Tormes" follows in a totally udnerstandable format. There are seven examples of the work of Miguel de Cervantes ranging from the exmeplares to the Quijote (four incidents). Some of the succeeding authors are Duque de Rivas, Jose de Espronceda, Jose Zorrilla, Becquer, Antonio de Alarcon, Galdos, and Valdes. The selections are excellent and short enough to hold attention. After each story there is a chronological question list of approximately 15-40 questions dependent on the length of the selection.Corazon de Espana is a great book for intermediate readers of Spanish with an interest, or the serious stduent of the langauge in high school college or beyond.
