"Congo Vignettes" traces the history of the Laban Ministries International and three generations of the Laban and Marcella Smith family serving as missionaries in the heart of Africa. Author and women's speaker Shawn Lantz is the daughter of missionary parents, Jim and Nancy Smith, founders of the mission organization started by Jim's parents. The organization today is committed to training nationals to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ with their own people in the Bandundu region in the Democratic Republic of Congo (formerly Zaire). Each chapter is introduced with a familiar hymn, a scripture or quote from diaries and journals of a family member and a story telling of life as a missionary, serving the remote areas of Africa.
