Confluence, Love and Adventure in the American West

CONFLUENCE, subtitled Love and Adventure in the American West, is a multi-dimensional novel. Ms. Morgan's obvious love of the land is demonstrated by her beautifully written, visually realistic descriptions of the desert, the mountains, and the flora that the hikers come upon. Each character is also well drawn, especially Shari, with whom many readers will relate . . . . A deeply introspective tale told in the first person, CONFLUENCE is well written, with believable characters and the incredible wild backdrop of Canyonlands National Park.Jani BrooksRomance Reviews Today

Confluence review

Confluence is not a modern-day soap opera. It's also not The Bridges of Madison County! It's not another book about Mormon polygamists, despite being set in Utah. Author Susan Morgan paints a pretty picture of the awesome great outdoors of Utah's canyons and Montana's rugged mountains. Yet, she manages to take some realistic jabs on environmental issues we face in the West. One of the character's comments about Arizona was so right on the money!! If you're expecting a tourism guide on the desert Southwest, this isn't it. It will, however, whet your appetite for taking a hike, wherever you live! Ms. Morgan does such a great job writing about the postcard-like surroundings that this hike takes place in that it's easy to picture yourself in this book! Would you have acted like Shari if you were in her position? So, if you feel like escaping on a rugged hike in Utah's Canyonlands, I highly recommend this book. Bring along a glass of water or two, and leave the hiking boots, map, and rope at home! You won't need it for this virtual hike in the desert, in which the hikers find themselves struggling with past commitments and natural danger in the form of a raging river and a flash flood. I enjoyed Ms. Morgan's 1st person writing style (which is not easy to do well). It is witty, conversational, yet extremely interesting. She does a good job developing characters in the book. They're not overly obnoxious, yet they're believable. This is a world with real problems. Often not pretty, yet attractive in its own special way. This is not just a chick book. (i.e., "chick lit"). I think guys would find the book equally interesting. Our heroine is Shari Deluca. We read in-depth about Shari's wild hike with a group of hikers. Each hiker is unique, as is this book. Since reality TV is so popular, I would think this book would fit right in. You'll meet Shari, her husband (who, oddly enough, doesn't go on the hiking trip with her) and her hiking companions, including a cute guy named Jon who puts Shari on a road of self-discovery laden with temptations. Fidelity issues aside, this is a book about choices. One could question why it is that Shari went on a hike without her spouse. You aren't following a forbidden journey--you are following a real-life issue that many people wrestle with when they're out in the real world. Can a married woman be friends with a guy without it putting strain on her commitment to her husband? Just when you think this book is predictable, Susan Morgan hurls us a wicked curve. I won't spoil this wonderful plot and what happens in the end, but I will highly recommend this book. Interestingly, this is a print on demand book published by Booksurge. It is well written, nicely edited, and a nice, crisp book. If you haven't read a print on demand book, I urge you to do so. Since most books are printed on demand, it's really not as novel a concept as you think. The fonts were easy to read and the book is nicely laid out. Two thumb's up for Confluen

`Confluence' by: Susan Morgan Reviewed by: A writer/author NYC, NY (visit: martinstab.com)Don't miss this one:Though I am not a heavy reader of romance, thanks to Susan Morgan I may now have become one. Ms. Morgan's debut novel not only shows a great deal about Utah and Montana desert hiking/backpacking in splendid vivacious style, interwoven is a beautifully written and intriguing love story, which becomes a strong testament to her superb talents as an author. How refreshing to see well-written and edited work, which the reading public can really enjoy. Morgan's writing talent becomes evident in the novel's first few pages. For me, it's difficult to believe that `Confluence' was not her own story...possibly a memoir of a decent loving human being with a torn heart. Her main characters were developed so well, I felt that I really got to know them and it helped make her story even more believable. In the beginning I had strong reservations about the author writing her story entirely in first person, but after becoming accustomed to her style...I realized it works out to her advantage and in my mind she did it so well, it again made it difficult to believe it was not she herself she wrote about all along.

Morgan is the bomb!

I Live in the city. This book is a really great escape to wilderness. Morgan makes you think about things that certainly are not in my day to day life but very important to the world. There should be more stories like this.

An armchair adventure! Top Notch!

Ms. Morgan is a gifted writer with a talent for setting an environment, establishing character and weaving drama through and through.
