This book was outstandingly written by a veteran police officer who experienced the "real" efforts made by police officers in LA and throughtout the United States. Thanks.

A Great First Novel

Where the "rubber hits the road," separating fact from fiction in Richard Whitaker's novel is only for those to tell who really know, and he's not telling. Many years on the LAPD offered a fertile field for the seeds of fact to mingle with imagination in the creation of this fast paced, often graphic and violent, yet tender and heart rending story. We see the extremes of the human spectrum in Nicholas Hunter McLean as his altruistic innocence is stripped bare when he is forced to face the fact that there are nasty people on the streets who do vicious things to innocent citizens, and who deliberately stalk certain policemen with the intent to maim and/or murder. Whitaker lived through it all, therefore, much of his own character is mirrored in McLean, but you'll have to write to him to get answers to your own questions. Whitaker's gift of description will have you dropped jawed one moment, laughing the next, and reaching for a Kleenex to dab at tears when you least expect them. There will be moments you will devour the words racing through pages to find out what happens next. You won't be bored by this story, especially when you know that it is based on real life situations which the author encountered or barely lived through himself. So get yourself a nice cup of tea, crawl in your comfy readying chair and enjoy the journey of Richard B. Whitaker's Conflict in Blue: Behind the Badge.

Prior to law enforcment in 1968 I started reading books about cops. I loved the novels so much that I joined LAPD and served 25 Years with LAPD. I even had an occasion to work with the author and rolled on his back up calls. The book is on the money. No nosense and no b.s. He tells it like it is and does not confuse the reader. I enjoyed the book so much I bought one for a friend. This book is about LAPD and not the press.
This is reality

Once I started reading Conflict In Blue I couldn't put it down. Mr. Whitaker takes the reader to the streets of L.A. in a time when there was a lot of changes going on in the entire country. There were (and are) "bad guys" out there who really do want to kill cops. Whitaker shows the reader how the reality of being cop can change an individual's outlook on a lot of things regardless of his/her background. For being his first novel, Whitaker has proven himself to be a best seller.
