Book Overview

A delicious, laugh-out-loud funny Southern-fried memoir about growing up a "proper young lady"...or not. A strict regimen of Southern-belle grooming should have prepared Anna Fields for a lifetime of ladylike behavior. But it didn't. As it turned out, Anna-a smart, outspoken, bookish girl- was a dud at debbing. After being kicked out of cotillion classes, the "Rebel Deb" left North Carolina to seek her fortune. Her first stop was Brown University-right...

Love it!

I saw Anna Fields speak and was compelled to buy the book. Glad I did!

Great, funny, coming of age story

Anna Field's Confessions of a Rebel Debutante is a charming, funny and picaresque coming of age story. It details Anna's progress from a Southern teenager rebelling against her strict, old-fashioned boarding school (dedicated to the production of debutantes), to a neuroscience major at Brown University, a writing student at NYU, a personal assistant to Diana Ross, a tutor to Jill Zarin's daughter, and a soap opera writer. Southerners find Anna too liberal and rebellious, and Northerners complain she's too polite and Southern--but eventually Anna is able to find and be true to her own unique self, both as a woman and a writer.

Best memoir I've ever read!

I pre-ordered this book because I liked the title and the cover page. I thought it would be an easy beach read, but it turned out to be SO much more! Funny, touching -- the part about her best friend from high school made me cry. I also loved the catchy Southern phrase and the quick wit. Definitely the best book I've read in a long time -- I'm ordering more copies for my Mom and sisters. I hope she comes out with another book soon -- I'm definitely a Rebel Deb at heart and I want to read more!

Awesome book -- worth the money

Completely worth the read. I was laughing the entire time. Anna Fields is both an amazing story-teller and a comedienne. There's nothing like the "chicken-leg dance" to make you remember those awkward teenage years and pimply-faced dates. True to life, but still keeps you engaged without seeming too folksy or assuming you know nothing (or everything) about the South. I buy a lot of books that I end up returning -- not this one!
