Great Reading!

Concrete Jungle is compilation of stories that are well-written, interesting and real. Shannon Holmes is but one of the authors that have contributed to the book. Love, lust, lies... street life and hard truths... Concrete Jungle's got it! The best thing about this book is the variety of writing styles, ideas and energy. I couldn't put it down!

A tapestry of urban life in America...

In cities throughout the United States, an individual street culture exists known as the Concrete Jungle; not the traditional jungle with animals. It is not located on the African or South American continents. No! The urban jungle which lives in American cities. This collection of short-stories explores life in the Concrete Jungle. The stories are heart-warming, funny and real and share the day to day exploration of what it is to live life in this place. This anthology displays a list of talented writers which include Shannon Holmes and Anthony Whyte. Many of the writers are not names that are recognizable yet, but they will be. The stories are fast and free flowing, each one displays the unique voices that brightly shine from the first to last story. To paraphrase Lene, the Concrete Jungle has billions of stories, some are true and others half truths but everyone has a story to tell. The CONCRETE JUNGLE starts off with an explosive introduction. Shakespeare is quoted in the introduction; "The world is a stage and everyone is a player". Those are definitely prophetic words for the upcoming short-stories. From the young girl who thinks she can out-smart and out-hustle to get on top of the drug game, to the white grocery boy who becomes the hottest "black" player on campus. Or, maybe the cut-throat and ambitious femme-fatale who connives her way to the top of corporate America. Or the ruthless and violent stick-up man who learns that what goes around-comes around. Each character is vastly different but all share one thing in common: living life in the Concrete Jungle. If read consecutively, back to front or sporadically, CONCRETE JUNGLE is a compilation of short-stories that grabs the reader's attention. Each story stands on its own uniqueness. All are free-flowing and well-written. The introductory prose sets the tone, and its lyrics grabs the reader's attention and sets the mood for what is to follow. Holmes, Whyte, and Rivers, are masters of urban literature. Each share their style and talent as contributors on this project. The anthology also brings together new, exciting voices of urban fiction. I was amazed at how the stories just drew me in. I'm not going to say that I read each story one after another. I read them out of order and that's what was the amazing part. The diversity, the range of talent, and the various perceptions set the stage for each writer's voice to be heard. The collection of lives is an interwoven tapestry. That's The beauty of CONCRETE JUNGLE. Reviewed by Richell Winchester TRR Guest Reviewer

GREAT READ

DIFFERENT APPROACH, GREAT READ IF YOUR LOOKING TO GET AWAY FROM THE GANGTER TITLES.SHANNON HOLMES AS ALWAYS DID HIS THING, FELICIA RUTTY WAS A SAD STORY,SO MANY WOMEN GO THROUGH THIS SITUATION AND NEVER SPEAK ABOUT IT, PICK IT UP YOU WONT BE DISAPPOINTED

Extremley entertaining

Concrete Jungle is an excellent mix of short stories with several different topics. Every story might not be for everybody but there is definitly a story for everybody. Jackson Press has done an excellent job at combining first time novelist such as Joe Margolis and Natasha Phillips with more experienced writers like A.J. Rivers and Shannon Holmes. Joe's story In Search of Chucky Gee is a tale of a white teens journey into black culture, will appeal to a wide range of readers. While Natahsa's story The Kiss is of a young womens first foray into an unusual relationship, is very well written. A.J.s' story of someone trying to maintain their hustle, relationsip, and mind is an interesting tale told with a twist. Shannon's story of a thugs life where the end justifies the means is a very entertaining tale. Jackson Press has struck platinum with its first published works.
