"Scars are just the badges you earn for livin'."..Joe told her.

If you are looking for a good Western, and possibly a new writer;look no further;this novel should be just what you're looking for. This is the first I've read by Gary Franklin and I am looking forward to more.Three others are listed as other titles,so to me a least,he is a new writer on the western scene. This is an excellent saga, and truly "Old West" through and through.Personally,I prefer Westerns that don't resemble Mysterys filled with a lot of suspects, motives, clues and convoluted things going on to keep the reader guessing who are the good guys and who are the bad guys. Then in the end a long wrap-up explaining "whodunnit". This story involves a man and his wife who are being hunted down for a bounty that has been placed on their heads by a wealthy mine owner who belives they murdered his kin. There are well developed characters, the manhunt is long and difficult on both the parts of the hunters and the hunted. There is lots of action, struggles to survive, hopeless situations to overcome, and struggles of survival af every kind ,including the harsh eneviroment of the desert around the great Salt Lake.Indians of several tribes, and Mormons with very definite ideas and practices ,more commonly known as "Jack Mormons;all for Joe Moss, with the well earned name of "Man Killer", and his wife Fiona to deal with ,if they are going to retrieve their little daughter and settle the matter of the bounty placed on their heads. The author constructs a well thought out story, that is a gripping read from beginning to end.
