This is a unique item. Short on text, it nevertheless provides a general history of the development of computer games, mostly from a British perspective, though information on U.S. and continental European games is included. The majority of the book consists of graphics from individual computer games, from the Age of Empires to Zelda. This could literally have been titled the "A to Z of Computer Games"! Thank goodness for the Index in the back, which allows the reader to look up each game by name and find text and graphics by page number. A table of contents and introduction would have been very useful; the information on the back cover inadequately serves that purpose. The graphics are well reproduced, but I can understand the other reviewer's frustration. There are more than 400 full-color illustrations and less than 20 pages of text. This is more for the person interested in the art of computer game graphics rather than for someone who wants information about the history or the technique.
