In a publishing career that spanned less than a decade, Jane Austen used the romantic endeavours of her well-plotted characters as a stage from which to address issues of gender politics and class-consciousness rarely expressed in her day. The novels included in this beautiful leatherbound collection; Sense and Sensibility, Pride and Prejudice, Mansfield Park, Emma, Northanger Abbey, Persuasion and Lady Susan, represent all of Austen's mature work as a novelist and provide the reader with an introduction to the world she and her memorable characters inhabited. Jane Austen: Seven Novels is part of Barnes & Noble s series of quality leatherbound volumes. Each title in the series presents a classic work in an attractively designed edition bound in genuine bonded leather. These books make elegant additions to any home library.
I write this review for the purpose of warning prospective buyers about the Gramercy Books 1981 hardcover edition.
I ordered this collection for school. It was wholly suitable, until I discovered just now that some midwit made a serious printing error: Pages 565-594 are absent, and pages 595-626 have been doubled, such that the volume jumps from 564-595, then when it gets to 626 it resets from 595, and then continues normally.
The result is that the ending of Mansfield Park and beginning of Emma are missing.
All-In-One

While a boxset might be prettier, I enjoy the fact that I paid the price of one book and got multiple classics. I was on the lookout for Pride and Prejudice and found all her novels in one book instead. As a Jane Austen lover, I am thrilled with this. It may not be gorgeous on the outside, but the illustrations before each book (in my version at least) make up for it.
Single book, not Box Set
Published by Cara , 2 years ago
Perhaps I was the only one confused when the book arrived, but I was expecting a box set with Jane Austen’s novels as individual books (as the description seemed to indicate). This book is 2.5 inches thick with very small print. Not what I was hoping for at all.
Disappointed

While I love the stories, I can’t read them because the text is too small. I wish it had arrived in a larger format

I read and reread these classic stories by the great author. Emma and Persuasion are not as often read by the public but are terrific and shouldn't be missed. (SADLY THIS COPY WAS NOT AS DESCRIBED AND HAS DAMAGE THAT MUST BE REPLACED)
A Must-Have Collection for Austen Fans!

I purchased this book to gain access to many of Austen’s novels that I had never read and did not own, and am beyond pleased with this edition! The stories are unabridged, and the edition itself is beautiful-a hard-bound gray that looks beautiful on my end table or bookshelf. Highly recommend for readers just diving into the world of Jane Austen-you will LOVE this collection!

I can now say that I have read all of Jane Austen's works. The print may be small and my eyes may be old, but I enjoyed every story in this collection. A must for the home library.

The Complete Novels of Jane Austen

This book has been great to have the completed works of Jane Austen. The price is good, and the ability to have all the works right at your finger tips in one volumn is wonderful to have. Makes school a lot easier for the kids.
8 Classics in one volume
Published by Thriftbooks.com User , 18 years ago
Of course the reputation of these novels by Jane Austen is well-known. I enjoyed all these classic novels very much. This book is especially nice because it contains 8 novels in one book. It is lightweight paperback, and easy to carry around. The printers did not waste any space...they left only a very small margin on each page, used a small font (no problem, though, for my reading glasses!), and began each novel on the very next page after the previous one ends. No "fluff", very little white space.
I thought the layout was fine - not a problem. A good buy!

Re the review below - OK, so the layout's in two columns, but then so is the Complete Works of Shakespeare that I own, and the same for Chaucer. It's normal for 'complete works' editions like these to be laid out in more than one column - otherwise the book would be much too thick! The print size is slightly smaller than for a standard book - it's about the same as for a newspaper, so if you're OK reading a newspaper, then you should be fine with this book. A really good value edition, and well worth buying.
