Beautiful Coffee table book. Full of decorative rooms and ideas. Tons of pictures and information to decorate from start.

Simple, creative ideas

This book is full of DIY project ideas - from shelves to headboards to decorative accessories. Some of the ideas I'd like to try, others I have no interest in trying - just not my style. Most of the projects are simple and use basic items in different, sometimes not so appealing, ways.

Lots of ideas

I just bought this book as a bargain book at Border's and think I got a really good deal! The book has over 1000 color photographs and 200 projects that are very doable being written in a step-by-step format. The techniques they used are transferrable to any kind of scheme I might think of on my own, so I started thinking of all kinds of possibilities with materials I already have that are treasures I have saved for just such purposes. The glue gun and stapler are used a lot and many projects may be done quickly. It helps you see in a different way with a minimum of time, expense and effort while stimulating creativity! Some examples are: 1) a gilded chair made from a caned bentwood chair with a damaged seat. Instead of recaning, the seat was replaced with plywood and the whole chair gilded. 2) a Japanese futon where the cotton bedcover is made from a decorator's dust sheet and the base made from wooden pallets. 3) a Tuscan doorway, which is trompe d'oeil using paints carefully layered and rubbed for an aged look. Do you know how cool a director's chair looks covered with kilim carpet material rather than plain canvas? There is no one style. Some of it is minimalistic and some is flat-out romantic. Many can be done probably in an hour or two.
