The main content of the book is alphabetized profiles of 100 bear artists who were popular in the 1980s, along with photos which sample their work. Likely a book made on the subject today profiling 100 bear artists would contain some of these artists along with newer, different artists, as teddy bear artists may have retired, and newer ones have started in the 20 years since the book was published. The rest of the book contains historical information about bears, and profiles of bear manufacturers and famous bears (again, outdated information appears here). While much of the text of this book is outdated since it was written "in the present" about bears available at the time it was written (1989), it's one of those books you can buy "for the pictures" if you like teddy bears. Many of the bears are posed in creative scenes. For the photos alone, and the fact that the book can be purchased inexpensively on the secondary market, the book deserves four stars.
