A good SUPPLEMENT...

... but the problem is that, while this book is well written, it can't HELP but to be hopelessly out of date. Compaq revises its courseware and tests quarterly, while it can easily take a year or more to get a book like this to market. This book was originally supposed to be published in September '99 - even then, it took another five months (until February 28, 2000) to become available. In the interim, guess what? Compaq did a major revision of the Systems Management part of the course, doubling the amount of content in that part of the ASE course alone by adding chapters on Insight Manager XE, LC, client management, power (UPS) management, BMC Patrol management of the OS, none of which this book addresses. The GOOD things about this book are that everything is in one place for review - you can carry this book around with you, and the book is very readable (obviously written by ASEs); but, remember this is only a good SUPPLEMENT to a Compaq ASE course! Even then, web sites like Compaq's own site (free web-based training - you can find their whole Compaq Proliant Systems Technologies course there) are quickly making this kind of supplement obsolete.

Decent Value

I agree with a number of reviewers here- This book is a good asset to have when tackling the ASE exams (it's one of the only books out there!), but you should couple it with other resources (like experience.)The book is worth the price of purchase, and time to read- I definetley think it assisted me in passing these exams...
