This is the best book for those going through illness whether chronic or acute. It is tremendously inspirational. The prayers must have been written by someone who has actually suffered from illness because they capture the sentiments and the anxieties of a patient so perfectly. Bravo and praise Jesus.
This remarkable book continues to help me through tough times

Companion in illness is a small 80 page book broken up into sections ranging from practical tips on living with illness to scripture and prayer relevant to those who are ill to the Roman Catholic service of Anointing of the Sick Outside Mass, to medical reminders on dealing with family and medical professionals. It is a small book that covers so much. In the "Prayers in Sickness" section, one page will have a scripture reading such as 1 Kings 19:4-8 with the facing page having a prayer such as a "Prayer for Courage". The reading and prayer go together so well. The Prayer for Courage opens "O God, today one room, one place has been my desert. One day in sickness seems like a lifetime...." The author knows what it is like to be sick. There are prayers for those in fear, for those who need courage, for Christ's Healing, for the Power to Do God's Will as well as others addressing different emotions felt by those who are sick. There is something for the many moods of difficult times. My only regret is that this book is not bigger or there is not another volume. Some of the prayers are on Victor Hoagland's web site.
