Buy the book !

I had been looking for a simple-to-use text for teaching the subject, when I picked up my brother's copy. I read through it in about three days, and bought a copy for myself and a copy for my student. Material is well-organized and simply presented with great examples. A treasure, and one I'll NOT leave in port. The author gives plenty of examples, and his rules of thumb work well in the real world. One caveat: note the year of publication. You won't find information on using your new GPS. You WILL find information on maintaining and correcting a DR, determining speed and position based on observation and elapsed time.
