Ron Carlson is a funny guy. At least one would expect him to bea funny guy after reading his ouevre. His most widely anthologizedstory, "Big Foot stole my Wife" is both touching andhysterical. His newest collection, represented here, is equallywell-written and--as the title states--hilarious. Speaking of which,I've heard many people clamor that saying your book is hilarious inthe title is arrogant and presumptious. But if you call pull it off(like Dave Eggers did with "A Heartbraking Book of StaggeringGenius") it only adds to the tome's appeal. Carlson's charactersare mostly everyday people but each with subtle quirks that set themflying into impossible and funny situations. The best part about thecharacters is the wonderful touch Carlson has with dialog. Thesepeople are funny! But it's funny because it's real. People actuallytalk like they do in this book, unlike say, a David Rabe play orD.F. Wallace book. This is a wonderful read. I ... it is madeavailable (when the book-reading members of the country realizethey're overlooking a wonderful piece) definately pick up this book. Ipromise you'll enjoy it!
