great book

this book is well worth the money. anyone that is a rodney fan must own it. if reading and never listened to him it will make you go out and buy his albums and look to see when he will be in your area to see him live.

funny stuff

If you like Rodney, you'll love this book!! There are a few times I was a little bored because some of the dialogue in the book is the same as in his act (so I had already heard it before), but there's so much new stuff. It was awesome. I couldnt stop laughing.

For Rodney Carrington fans

Rodney Carrington is the guy next door, if you live in Oklahoma or Texas, but what differentiates him from your neighbors is that he is the funniest %$#%^$# you'll ever meet. I noticed in reading the previous review that the sample used to demonstrate how funny he is did not seem that funny to me taken out of context, because it lacked Rodney's distinctive voice, but the book itself did not seem that way to me. The artistry of the book is that it takes commentary and stories from Rodney's routines and puts it all on paper so skillfully that you can actually hear Rodney speaking as you are reading, and it sounds great. If you have never heard Rodney, you might be at a disadvantage, appreciation-wise, but I'm betting you'll still laugh your butt right off. The jokes, and a song or two, are bawdy, dirty, blue, but not profane or salacious, at least not in my opinion (yours could easily differ.) This book is not family entertainment like his short-lived television show and much the better for it. The only weakness is the fact that if you have ever heard his routines you have already heard many of the jokes. One of the strengths is that he is so funny, you won't care. If you are in the mood for a series of "slice of life" vignettes told from a country perspective, in a down home style, with a certain raunchy flavor, buy this book. You will not be disappointed.
