An intimate and stunning story about the end of WWII in Hungary.
Published by Katherine R , 3 years ago
I found this book, published five years after.the end of WWII, by accident in a second hand store. It is now a book I will keep, no matter how often I move. Comes the Comrade is a first person account of the Soviet Army's taking of Hungary from the German Army. The author, a Polish woman who escaped to Hungary after the invasion of Poland, describes the chaotic entry of Soviet soldiers into her adopted town of Mora. The author is witty and entertaining, and navigates the dangers by her wits to come out relatively unscathed. But many Hungarians are not so lucky.
