Great Read

Very good book. I could relate to both women at one point in my life. I know there are many women who relate to being in the middle of 2 men that they have deep emotions for, which satisfies different parts of their lives. However, they do not want to make a choice because they feel like they will be missing something if they choose one over the other. All in all, very good book, and fast read. I will definitely recommend this book to others.

A Spiritual Awakening

In COLORED SUGAR WATER, Adel and Lucy are two thirty-something friends. At a first glance, they appear that they have it all. Both are good looking and successful in the business world. Adel is married and Lucy is seriously involved. However, neither Adel nor Lucy is happy.Adel is the breadwinner in her marriage. Her husband Thad tries, but not hard enough. His car is always breaking down and his business is just limping.Lucy is unhappy with her man Spencer, because he doesn't know what the word "creative" means. He lacks the gumption to try anything new. And quite frankly, Lucy is bored with him.Both are tempted by other men. Adel works with her ex-boyfriend Webster who still has feelings for her. Adel doesn't want to yield to temptation and she really wants to repair her marriage. She also knows that there is something missing from her life. Adel wants a child, but she is unsure what her husband wants. She is not spiritually connected to him. Adel wants some type of spirituality in her life. However, she is lost on how to obtain it.Lucy meets the vibrant Kuba from a psychic hotline. Lucy is not afraid of the unknown. Temptation leads her down the path of exploring her belief system. Some will scoff at it, because it contains references to voodoo and psychic powers. At work, Adel must do some soul-searching to remind herself what she feels is important. Colored Sugar Water is an entertaining read, blending a sweet mix of topics regarding the spiritual journeys of these two women. Berry's subject matter may not be for the faint of heart or those of little faith - be it in themselves or their spirituality. A Spiritual Literary Treat

This novel focuses on the friendship between 2 women, Lucy and Adel, their relationship with their significant others and their relationship with God. When challenges enter into their lives, they seek vastly different routes for consolation.Lucy is stuck in a relationship that she thinks is dull and going nowhere. On a daring call to a psychic hotline, she is put in touch with Kuba. Kuba enters her live and takes Lucy on a journey she did not expect. Adel is increasing unhappily with the politics in her job, and in a shaky relationship. She has never had a close relationship with God, but lately has been questioning His existence. The author tells a story about how each woman overcomes and grows during their trying times, while maintaining the most important thing, their friendship. Since I don't want to give too much away here, I will say this book was a refreshing mature read that you will immensely enjoy.
