An excellent introduction to the wonders of our universe, this book is beautifully designed and illustrated, providing clear and understandable explanations of the Big Bang, the birth and death of stars, the solar system, black holes, and much more (thankfully, for once there isn't any attempt to explain the theory of relativity, except in the most general terms!). There are numerous astonishing views of galaxies and nebulae taken recently by the Hubble telescope and other state-of-the-art observatories. A great addition to the reference library of any curious, thinking person who is fascinated by the big questions.

Using many photographs and drawings, this book illusrates the solar system, stars and the galaxies. It also covers the most recent developments in astronomy. I find it very useful while teaching a college level course. This book is recommended to those who'd like to obtain a overall view of the unierse on it's past, present and future.
