Just Another "Richard Laymon Wannabee!"

This is a very tiresome book about a mother who seeks revenge on her son's wife after he is executed for murdering women. The plot is rice paper thin, the characters are stock cardboard cutouts and the violence in this book is solely for the sake of violence. I do grow weary of Horror/Suspense/Thriller writers who bludgeon their readers with scenes of graphic violence who have yet to realize that true genius and mastery of these genres is accomplished with restraint as can be seen in the excellent writings of Phil Rickman. I give this book 5 stars because my copy of it does have an impressive mansion on the front cover.

Highly recommend this one!

This is the 2nd Ed Gorman book I've read. Daughter of Darkness was good, but Cold Blue Midnight was an EXCELLENT book. It was creepy and at times a bit gory, but the story could not have been told any other way. This book grabs you from the first page. I would love to see this one on the big screen as long as the movie maintains the same quality as the book.

In Yo Face Page-Turner

Ed Gorman is one of the best kept secrets in today's nail-biting thriller market. With the ability to write an extraordinary number of novels in a wide range of styles and voices, Gorman should be a household name synonymous with the likes of Stephen King, Tom Clancy, John Grisham, and Dean Koontz. Strangely enough, he isn't. Gorman, whose previous works include Cage of Night and Black River Falls, writes thrillers the way they were meant to be written. Fast pacing, intricate plotlines, and a mystery that isn't revelaed until the last chapter. All of this is readily available in "Cold Blue Midnight" and I would recommend this book to anyone who doesn't mind skipping a night's sleep to get to the end. While the book is solidly plotted I will say it is not as good as some of his other novels. A little too much of this novel relies on coincidence and some of it is just plain unbelievable. Characterization is a bit thin and each character seems different f! rom the others in name only. Still this novel is light years beyond the drivel that Grisham and his ilk have been spewing onto the market.
