Great book

I first read this book a couple of years ago and though it was great. I found it again a couple of days ago in a box stashed under my bed. I reread it in one day and found it was good as it was before. The plot had enough twists to keep it form being predicitable but not so much that it was hard to follow. The book is well written and the characters are extrememly likeable. The book seemed realistic which is a plus with me. Anyways if you are looking for a good beach read this is definitely a good book to pick up.

"Conspiracy Theory" meets "The Hot Zone"....EXCELLENT!!

Actually, I read it in one day...it was that good!! This book has it all...Love & Hate...Sex & Rape...Nasty Bugs & Heroic Doctors. It is refreshing to have a female protagonist for a change. The basic premise is sound and the Bug unleashed on Humankind is delightfully wicked and nasty. Read this one for sure!!

Fast Heartstopping Excitement! You can't put it down.

This book was nothing but excitement. This intensely written thriller is impossible to put down. Everbody should read this heartstopping thriller.

A good read, but hard to understand medical lingo

Fisher writes an excellent medical thriller, but her knowledge of medicine and virology sometimes leaves the reader trying to guess the plot. The action is fast-paced and the characters are believable. If you can get around all the jargon, you will definitely enjoy the book. A MUST READ for fans of Robin Cook!

Medical thriller in the tradition of Cook and Crichton

Dr. Lucy Nash, a virologist, practices in a highly regarded New York City hospital. However, she also donates time to the International Medical Organization, traveling to the poor and isolated top provide medical care when a crisis arises. The latest hot zone she visits is the Peruvian jungle where a deadly virus has struck, leaving half of a village decimated in its wake. Though she struggles with the suffering of the locals, Lucy falls in love with a fellow volunteer, Dr. Jean Pierre Didier. When they believe that the disease has been contained, Jean promises to see Lucy when he flies to New York to visit an ailing relative. However, h is unable to keep his promise. Upon arriving in the Big Apple, customs officials find him carrying six kilos of heroin in his luggage. When Lucy learns what happened, she refuses to believe he would do such an action. She begins to investigate in the hope of clearing up the name of her beloved. Instead, she learns that Jean has not been totally forthright with her. Still, she continues to dig deeper even though she is unaware that she is getting close to an unknown group, who kill anyone who learns of their existence. Nancy Fisher, author of great medical thrillers like SPECIAL TREATMENT and SIDE EFFECTS, has written another chiller that seems to have come straight out of headline breaking news, making CODE RED easily acceptable as a genuine possibility by the reader. Though a key villain is too stereo typical, the enthralling novel remains enjoyable. Fans of the sub-genre will feel the afterglow of a winning tale. Harriet Klausner
