Book Overview

Don't miss Elizabeth Wein's stunning new novel, Stateless

The beloved #1 New York Times bestseller, a "fiendishly plotted" (New York Times) "heart-in-your mouth adventure" (Washington Post) that "will take wing and soar into your heart" (Laurie Halse Anderson).

October 11th, 1943--A British spy plane crashes in Nazi-occupied France. Its pilot and passenger are best friends. One of the girls has a chance at survival. The other has lost the game before it's barely begun.

When "Verity" is arrested by the Gestapo, she's sure she doesn't stand a chance. As a secret agent captured in enemy territory, she's living a spy's worst nightmare. Her Nazi interrogators give her a simple choice: reveal her mission or face a grisly execution.

As she intricately weaves her confession, Verity uncovers her past, how she became friends with the pilot Maddie, and why she left Maddie in the wrecked fuselage of their plane. On each new scrap of paper, Verity battles for her life, confronting her views on courage, failure and her desperate hope to make it home. But will trading her secrets be enough to save her from the enemy?

A universally acclaimed Michael L. Printz Award Honor book, Code Name Verity is a visceral read of danger, resolve, and survival that shows just how far true friends will go to save each other.

Absolutely loved Code Name Verity!

This book is for YA & adults. It is about friendship, in particularly, during wartime, which may make your heart ache & soar in the same paragraph. The characters draw you in & make you think, then the plot makes you THINK again! I got a little over halfway through the book & went back to reread excerpts here & there as I read the second half, just so I could fully see the bigger picture. I’m glad I own it because it’s allowed me to read it multiple times. There is cursing & brutal scenarios, but what may be expected during wartimes & given human nature, but I believe it is a beautiful book.

I loved this book.

Easy read, but gets you deep. The story grabs you and doesn’t let go. I’ve thought of this book years after reading it. Very interesting angle for an oft-written topic, with engaging characters that doesn’t rely on tropes.

Interesting but challenging for me

This book is informative about am aspect of the war that I knew nothing about and I am glad that I read it. Ultimately I enjoyed it but I had difficulty sticking with it and confess to scanning through some parts.
