Coaltown

Coaltown was written over the space of three years in a house that Tomas Bird lived in alongside such vibrant characters as Sheephead - whom the book is dedicated to - his brother Jukebox Durie and photographer Fraser Stephen, or to his friends, Flo. Influenced by a number of artists and writers, Bird opts for sparse and thought provoking stories that mostly focus on a tiny segment of time which usually contain a hint of personal experience embodied with subtle embellishments to achieve an emotional reaction. The majority of these tales would be considered flash fiction however Bird ends with the short story A Smile from a Rose which could indicate that he may be intending to start writing longer pieces. To date, Bird has also released a collection of poetry called Shallow Sea and an album and E.P. called The Cut and Three Small Glasses a Day, for Good Health and Lively Blood respectively with his former band The Blonde Spirit.
