The Singing CPA gives this book a thumbs up!

This book is packed with important information for new investors from one of the most respected people in the investment world. I have recommended this book to many of my clients who are sports fanatics and they found it to be useful, practical and engaging. The "Game Plan" page at the end of each chapter reviews the main points and the glossary serves as a quick and easy reference.

A great book for beginner investors

I think this book is a wonderful tool for people who are interested in investing their money but don't understand their options, especially 20-somethings. It explains the different type of investments out there along with pros and cons of each. This book makes investing less intimidating and even provides resources to help you get started. This book was like a pep talk for me - it provided instructions, clear explanations and encouragment. Towards the end of the book you get the feeling that this is just a marketing tool to drive you towards Ameritrade/Amerivest products. That said, by no means should this be the only book you read, but it's a great starting point.

Great read for new investors!

This book is so informative for the different types of financial investing. It is also laid out in a way that is so easy to understand - which is very important because alot of money stuff can be confusing and overwhelming. I have recommended this book to so many people already - all of which have found this to be a great read and a great way to learn about new products and what type of funding they are best for. A must have if you are just getting into investing or want to know more about investing!

Great investment aid.

This book is a great book, especially to the readers who are just learning how to invest. It gives an understanding of the different financial "products" available, and analyzes the pros and cons of each. With that in mind, this book is a great investment to those who want to learn how to become financially independent.

A Little Basic

I enjoyed this book. As a young investor, it was immensely helpful in describing the different financial products available to me including pros and cons of each. I would highly recommend this to any parent who wants to get their children into investing at a younger age (I'm in my early 20's) as it has a straight forward approach that is particularly helpful for the "uninitiated." That being said, there are a couple of downsides. This is certainly not a book for someone who has a pretty good understanding of products and ways to allocate their portfolio. While Moglia mostly does a good job of explaining pros and cons of the different financial vehicles as I mentioned above, he seems to skim past implications of certain market factors. For example, in a discussion about bond yield curve, he explains how to look at the chart, but gives little direction in terms of what each kind of curve implies about what is happening in the bond market that causes this or even what's happening in the overall financial market that causes this. The other slight problem, is that it does have a slight hint of salesmanship to it, directing readers to the Ameritrade website. While a seasoned investor will know what works best for them, a basic investor doesn't necessarily have a full picture of different financial planning tools available to them. He also drives you towards Exchange Traded Funds, which while they are a powerful tool for many, may not be right for everyone. At the end of the day, this should be part of any investor's library as they're just starting out, but shouldn't be viewed as the bible.
