Cleo the cat's friendship with the new puppy Caspar has a rocky start, but by the end of the day the two of them are playmates and a new friendship has been formed. The simple rhyme and vocabulary promote early reading.
With this purchase, we now own every Cleo book--they are my absolute favorite and I truly enjoy reading them to my (now) 7-month old (we've been reading them since he was born). As with all the other books, the colors are bright, the characters are cute and well-drawn, and the book rhymes. The only even somewhat minor thing about this particular book is that the rhyme scheme was a bit different than the other books. Other books, you pick up, read, and the rhyming works perfectly from page flip to page flip. This one took me a read or two to find the correct page-turning-rhythm. Sounds silly, but there you go. Still a winner of a book and I would recommend it to anyone!

Gentle rhythms of text lead to the meeting of a Cleo, a cat, and Caspar, a puppy. Caspar barks and Cleo hisses, "No!" then runs away. While Caspar sleeps, Cleo talks to her owner, a young boy. Cleo comes inside and tells Caspar, who is sleeping, that he can stay. Cleo drinks her milk, only to play with Caspar after he wakes up.
Soon to be a classic!

My 19 month old daughter picked this book out from the library and we had to recheck it when it came due! She waits her turn - and then shouts "No!" along with Cleo. The simple rhyming text and colorful illustrations really keep her attention - AND the attention of my much more well-read 3 year old son. They both clamor for this book at bedtime. We will be purchasing the entire series.
