A Claymore - a female warrior named for the sword she carries - travels from medieval village to village to destroy Yoma, monsters who disguise themselves as humans and who are almost impossible to kill. Claymores are half-humans, half-demons who willingly transformed themselves by mixing their blood with monster's blood. Claire, nicknamed silver-eyed killer, is such a powerful Claymore, she can slay a Yoma using only one hand. But she must constantly...

Easy to pick up even for non-manga readers.

I'll be honest here, I never really found myself reading manga or watching anime in the slightest form. But after I was introduced to Claymore, a series that originally captivated me with it's art style has yet to disappoint me. This is actually my first manga series I've ever purchased, I don't I regret it but I instead praise it. Right from the start, excluding the art itself, (from both the anime and the manga may I add) I was immersed in the story and became hooked with the series. If you are new at either anime or manga or simply looking for a new one, give Claymore a try, it's a great story with rich characters that you care for and a plot that is interesting and engaging enough to keep you reading through its volumes. As I have said before, I have not regretted the day that I bumped into the first image of Claymore and after 12 Volumes and 26 episode views later I still don't.

I <3 Claymore

At first I didn't like claymore, I picked it up becase of the cover and started to read the first chapter. As I read it I found myself getting sucked in to the story.I highly recommend this manga to anyone looking for good story plot.I also want to say this,if you find it boring plese read all the way up to vol.4 it realy starts to pick up there.I hope you find this helpful.enjoy.

Claymore, Volume 1

This is the start of one page turning story. It has everything I like: action, blood, guts, cool character designs and the feel of a world long past. At all the right moments, a page or two can be seen filled with just the artwork. I like this use of space, it's easy on my senses. The text size is also something that I like. It's never microscopic to the point I have to break out my magnifying glass like I did with my Ghost In The Shell Volume 1 - 2nd Edition (v. 1) I made the mistake of buying this one volume at a time. If you've already read this series you're probably having a good laugh because you know how dumb that was of me. Having as many volumes on hand at once, and then just blasting through them in a relatively short time frame is where the fun is at in this series. I only have 13 of the volumes in english, that are available to date. I'm patiently waitin' for more. In this world of Claymore, female humans are the only ones that have been successfully adapted to fight the humanoid monsters known as Yoma. Clare earns her living as one such slayer of these Yoma beasts. As part of the organization known as Claymore, she wields the huge and heavy sword of the same name. In Clare's normal state of being, her eyes are silver. When fighting the Yoma, they turn gold. The same as her opponents. So in effect, she's more than human. She has taken of the flesh and blood of Yoma into her body. What makes her unique is her ability to control this power she has. Clare is the biggest reason I'm a fan of "Claymore". I like her in the role as that of an outsider. Her fate, and lot in life within this fictional world is a tough one. She walks a very thin line as a silver-eyed slayer. One who is both, yet neither. Of course I want to see where the rest of her story and that of her comrades leads to.

Engaging stuff, and it only gets better!

I'm a Claymore fan. I'm recently reading the 10th book in Japanese and I'm loving it. When I first saw this comic, I knew right away that I was going to like it. It reminded me of "Gunm"(Battle Angel Alita) in that it appeared to be a pure action piece but actually had much deeper themes. I have to admit that the art in the first few volumes isn't perfect, but like Rumiko Takahashi who found her stride somewhere in the middle of "Urusei Yatsura" (Lum), you can recognize a huge difference in creator Norihiro Yagi's art (yes, it's Yagi, not Yago) when you get to #6. Maybe earlier, but it really hit me at #6. I hope Viz continues to put this out in English as this title deserves a wide fan-base. The pace is slower for this comic to come out in book form because it is published in the Monthly Shonen Jump (as opposed to Weekly Shonen Jump). Monthlies tend to have more mature, less commercial titles and are therefore usually more interesting. When they hit book form, they are packaged just like the weekly books however and so tend to get some prime shelf-space. I had to snicker at the Publisher's review of the comic being 'pleasant' though. There is hacking, slashing, and a lot of bleeding, but it's stylized enough not to be gory (bloody, yes; gory, no). No cutesy stuff either. No animal side-kicks, no easily packageable fluff. Just great story, great art (trust me, it does get better), and great characters. I only wish the books came out faster.

Well worth your time

I could not believe this when i saw it. It was great. First of all a claymore is a human who has drunk a monsters blood in order to become half monster so that they can seek out and destroy these human possessing monsters. Only Females live through the process. In the first chapter you get a sense when she first shows up she is a heartless monster. But later on through the book you see that she has a kinder heart than you might think. It has a very dramatic/action/adventure plot and great characters that have deepening stories to be told. I reccomend this to anyone who is interested in something new and exciting. This is not for younger children. It has Blood/language/partial nudity/violence.
