Following in the tradition of Abrams' classic Baseball's Golden Age: The Photographs of Charles M. Conlon, which captured baseball between the wars, Walter looss Jr. here presents the definitive photographic vision of baseball - and the players that turned a game into an art - since the 1960's. Classic Baseball includes many never-before-published photographs from the 1960s, along with more famous images from looss's illustrious Sports Illustrated career. The book also features several marvelous collages made by the photographer in which he puts together a main image and assorted related pictures in a large and fascinating whole. There are also several portraits of looss's favorite ballparks, such as Connie Mack Stadium, Wrigley Field, and Tiger Stadium in Detroit.
This is an outstanding baseball book for all ages. Our son and his boys absolutely loved looking at the older players and stories to go along with the pictures. It is knowledgable and enjoyable.
