This book was written by six authors, each covering one of the following aircraft: Ju-87 Stuka, Supermarine Spitfire, B-17, Japanese Zero, P-51, and B-29. The authors cover from the conception of the aircraft until after the end of the war, with all major platform modifications receiving coverage. Though by different authors, the sections to have certain similarities. The narrative is chronological, there is a two-page spread of each aircraft often with cut-away views, appendices cover specifications, production numbers, and squadrons assigned to, and numerous pictures are shown throughout. Not merely a hardware book, the decision made by aircrew and their commanders is included, to show how and why these aircraft were used. The results of switching B-29s from high altitude day bombing to low altitude night bombing over Japan are well covered, as well as the Ju-87's exploits on the eastern front. A fine book for those aged 13-130 and interested in how several important aircraft of World War II came about and were used.
