Plot...

Here Comes Charlie M...takes up where the first book left off with Charlie still not free of the clutches of British Intelligence. Except this time instead of Charlie being in disgrace, it's the young snobs in charge. They are now seeking to cover up past mistakes and indiscretions with new ones. And the chief object of their elaborate planning is Charlie Muffin. After all, he was responsible for the loss of two of the Department's best operatives as well as the mastermind behind the Soviet European spy network. It was Charlie who made the men in charge look like monkeys. And now the department is out for revenge. Flushed from his safe retreat in Zurich, he knows his life is in danger. Can he outwit them again?

Plot...

Charlie M...Like his name, Charlie Muffin is an oddity. An overtired, overdrawn, middle-aged anachronism. To the baronet Army colonel and his clean-sweep university graduates, Charlie, with his Manchester accent, his crumpled suits, and leaking Hush Puppies is the final inherited embarrassment from a disgraced Department they are committed to revitalize. Who better to sacrafice in the capture of Alexei Berenkov, the KGB general who masterminds the Soviet Union's European Spy network from behind the counter of his London wine importer's business? They forget, of course, that Charlie Muffin is a survivor. And when the amateurish upper-class young snobs begin bungling the biggest diplomatic coup in three decades...the defection of the head of the KGB itself...Charlie Muffin is resurrected from a desk in what had been the secretary's rest room for the riskiest assignment of his career. Once again, he proves his mettle...almost too well.
