Chuck was sitting on his porch thinking. He had his hoe in hand and his cat was curled up on a rug by his feet. Maybe he was thinking about having a hoedown. Mmmm, sounds like fun! Chuck went off to town and bought a banjo. Pluck, pluck. Along came Flo the goat who got a mandolin. When they were back on the porch Nip and Tuck, two dogs, came racing onto the porch to join in the fun (poor kitty went under the porch!). "Tuck plays the guitar- strum, strum, strum, Nip plays harmonica- hum, hum!" Lou the cow and Sue the little pig joined the crowd. Sue was on the fiddle and Lou on the washtub. Others ambled along to join the fun. They strummed and hummed and plucked out tunes, but the only one who didn't fit in was that poor Fat Cat Pat who would much rather sleep all day! This appealing story in rhyme is a popular one to read at home and also in a homeschool or classroom setting when introducing musical instruments. Children can learn basic music fundamentals and have a great time doing it. There are many online sites that give instructions for making a variety of homemade musical instruments. Playing anything from a kazoo to a piano or even a bit of tap, tap, tapping on a desk when reading this book aloud will bring a classroom to life!

Great book

My 23 month old loves this book and all of the colorful pictures and rhymes. I got it because he loved "Chuck's Truck" so much.

excellent sequel to chuck's truck

I give 4 starts because I though Chuck's Tuck was just a bit better, but my son and I have both enjoyed this one. Not as much of a tounge twister as the first book, but still many fun, repeatable lines. Many instruments are interesting to discuss.
