Glossy pictorial hardcover no dust jacket. 1986. 11.20x8.25x0.40. Illustrated by Russ Flint. LARGE PRINT. CHILDREN FUNNY STORY ABOUT FOUR GIRLS, A SPECIAL CHRISTMAS CELEBRATION. This description may be from another edition of this product.
This book takes the first chapter of Louisa May Alcott's classic, Little Women, and illustrates and abridges it for children. The illustrations are excellant, giving kids a good idea of how people, particularly women, dressed in the era (Civil War period), as well as a glimpse into the social and cultural customs of the period. The illustrations bring to life the opening chapter of the book. The text is in a large enough font that it is easier for children to read, and the paragraph/pages are broken down so that the young reader isnt overwhelmed by a sea of words. This version is easy to read aloud and captures and maintains the interest of children old enough to read it for themseelves, and those to whom books still need to be read. All in all, a delightful introduction to the March girls, and to historical fiction, that even young children can appreciate.
