Preteen Friendly

Very kid friendly tells a stork without adding unecessary content that would be a deterant for parents. Great Job

Good, readable book for young boys

My son had to do a book report on a favorite character. He loves R and B so he picked Chris Brown. I was happy that this book was descent and did not talk about all of the materialism that Rap and Hip Hop seems to be into. When I asked if he still wanted the book after the report was over he gave me an enthusiastic, "YES!!" Chris Brown seems to be an upstanding role model and for my nine year old boy in this crazy world, I am good with that!

So, you wanna get middle grade students to read???

I happened to be visiting the school from where I retired and saw kids scrambling to check out some new books. I asked the media specialist why where they all so excited. She informed me that ever since she got the set in the kids have been arguing over who would read the most in the series. The 25-book set, including a 26th one exploring the history of hip-hop, gives biographies of some of the most popular artists, past and present, in the musical genre. Browsing the Chris Brown title, I found the book to be informative, challenging, and most entertaining as it profiles the young singer, one of the hottest acts on the contemporary scene. Profusely illustrated with photographs of Brown and associates, family, and friends, the book also has highlighted vocabulary with an explanatory glossary in the book's appendix. Never condescending to the young reader, the book treats the reader with respect and has text that is engaging and informative. The book also shows the artist in a most positive light. Each book is written in the same manner and should be a mainstay in schools across the country. Others in the series profile the following: 50 Cent, Ashanti, Beyonce', Mary J. Blige, Mariah Carey, Sean Combs, Dr. Dre, Missy Elliott, Eminem, Jay-Z, Alicia Keys, LL Cool J, Ludacris, Nelly, Notorious B.I.G., Queen Latifah, Reverend Run (Run-D.M.C.), Will Smith, Snoop Dogg, Tupac, Usher, Kanye West, Pharrell Williams, and the aforementioned "Hip-Hop: A Short History."
