A easy-to-read historic epic story of a family in China.

This novel is pretty amazing. It's a touching story of a Chinese family in four generations. It's a story of love, drama, tragedy, adventure, and human accomplishment with Chinese history running with it. What so great about this novel is that it tells you about the Chinese history, culture and people. The reader get to see how the main characters were involved and affected by different events in Chinese History while living their personal life, it is just great story telling by CY Lee. It also tells you what the common people were doing and feeling at that time. As I read the book, I was fastinated by how time changes things. It's a "portrait of [the author's] native country, its history, people, culture, and destiny." It's set in the Ching Dynasty and ends in the communist China. For the Chinese part, i think it is a really good novel, and it is a great easy-to-follow story to learn modern Chinese History.
