As someone that has visited the People's Republic of China, I have personal knowledge of the sights in and near Beijing. Therefore, I can personally attest to the beauty of the structures as well as the situations on the streets that appear in these images. My group traveled through Beijing on a bus and two things always astounded me. The first was the enormous number of people on bicycles, it seems that nearly everything is transported via bicycle. The second was that there was always a solid stream of people on the edges of the roads and the driver would just turn into the stream and as if by magic, it would part at the last minute and the bus would go through. It is no exaggeration to say that if you had stuck your arm out the window, you would have slapped the faces of at least five people. This book captures the beauty of the structures in the city of Beijing as well as the industriousness and focus of the populace. While there are ethnic and political tensions in the country, the people are very energetic and hard working and determined to move forward. They are also very patriotic and proud of their nation, what we may see as orchestrated rallies are in fact expressions of the popular desire to have a good time and celebrate the accomplishments of the Chinese nation.
