The 'Children of the Voice' series, by Ishmael, are absolutely fantastic. I first read them when I was 9 or 10, but 6 years later and they are still my favourite books! They are very funny and easy to read, written with clever and humourous language, and definitely go in the 'can't be put down' category. The books follow an exciting story which teaches about Christianity (not at all in-your-face) using great storylines and fantastic characters. Here's the opening paragraph: ' "Dear Voice, please perform a miracle and make Sunday disappear this week," prayed Little Trouble with all the concentration he could manage. "And Voice, while I'm talking to you, do you think you could explain to me why such a great day as Saturday seems so short, and why such a boring day as Sunday seems so short?" No voice answered him, and he assumed that no one was listening.' The book follows Little Trouble's story on the way through Cross Country past all kinds of trouble and onto his adventures attempting to share the Voice's good news. Books 2 and 3 go on to tell us about his times in the dark and much more... I really can't stress enough just how FANTASTIC this book is.
