Entertaining

Nisha is a happily married wife with a husband and child when evil warriors from another tribe invade her lands and take her as a slave. Subject to degredation, Nisha resolves to survive at any cost and take her revenge on those who harmed her family. I really enjoyed the first 3/4 of this book. It was a fast gripping read with exciting characters and many interesting twists. I particularly liked the Shaman character Winnor and was somewhat disappointed not to read more about him. I did feel towards the end the revenge plot went on a bit too long became a bit over the top. Also the lesbian relationship was sweet, but felt a little unconvincing. I think I prefer Winnor and Nisha as a couple. Sookim needs partner who cares for her a bit more. Overall, this was a solid entertaining book I recommend to those interested in historical fiction.

The tribe lives happily together as equals. men and women work together with trust and freedoms. Charlotte Prentiss does an amazing job of elaborating their lives so that it leads into a story of justice. In one night, her whole life is changed by one traumatic appearance of Greb and his sexist men. You follow Nisha as her rage and anger consume her as she tries to bring the men responsible for such evil deeds as destroying her tribe and her people. This journey takes you along to see her frustration, her failures, her guilt, her wit and wile, her success and the different cultures and customs of other tribes. The characters are very well built; each has their own personality and their own reasons for doing as they do. I know this story is fiction but the way the story is told I wouldn't be at all surprised if in a far away place and time that something similar could have happened. The author did not flinch about putting blood and gore until the novel as well as sex, which many authors avoid because of fear of conflicting issues that the readers may have which I think could take away from a story. You want your readers to believe and it and how are we to believe it if the author's spare us the realistic truths of our own human savagery? As a survivor of an abusive boyfriend I understand the need for justice, the need for revenge and the need to help others like me. The guilt, blaming myself, the anger and rage and breakdowns was overwhelming for me and the story did a fine job of creating a similar circumstance for Nisha. The archeological aspect of the story from what I know of archeology and cultures of the time and place that the book describes is superb. It's the best book I ever read!!!!!

I read it last year when I was 13, I loved it just as much as I loved her other book People of the Mesa. She is my favorite author, I with to continue reading her books. :-) Thank you.

The obsession of revenge has never been so greatly defined.

This tale of one womans struggle with revenge, hatred, and love is simply breathtaking. Nisha's war with her emotions and the people who destroyed her world is masterfully developed. Each conflict draws the reader deeper into the intricately woven plot until they can identify completely with the main characters. This book simply cannot be put down. The ending leaves things a bit too unsure, yet this only seems too add to the depth of the possibilites.
