Children of the Healer

The children of Dr. Bob Smith, cofounder of Alcoholics Anonymous, give a first-person account of the miracle that took place in Akron, Ohio, in 1935, when Dr. Bob had his historic meeting with Bill Wilson. In the years that followed, Bob and Sue would learn that their father's recovery did not ensure their own.

A look at early AA and life at home with a Founder

Interesting look into the inner dynamics of the family of Dr Bob Smith. The adopted daughter and natural born son are studies in different adoptions to the same upbringing. Dr Bob and his wife Anne are seen as real parents trying to guide their kids on the "right" path. But the image of Dr Bob, well hung over, begging his adopted daughter to fetch his bottle from the car parked up the block, illustrates the reality of a founder of AA. Both their stories make for interesting reading for former tipplers and those interested in early AA experiences.

Childern of the Healer

Will not say to much here on my review. I enjoyed learning more of AA history, and this was a nice read for me, and will give as a gift to a friend who also has interest in early AA.

A Different Perspective

If you are interested in AA history, this book will be a very interesting read. This is not socalled "AA APROVED LITERATURE." It puts a different perspective on the founders of AA. They were afterall, human beings. "Imperfect people that came up with a way to help millions of other imperfect people to acheive a level of sobriety. The book is out of print, and I was surprised to find a new copy of it. If you are one that chooses to hold to the belief that Dr. Bob and Bill W. were saints, then you may wish to pass on this one. It is not a "Mommy Dearest" hatchet job, but simply a look at early AA from two people who were there.
