As I'm sitting in my homeroom and reading this book, i imagine where these intersting poems relate to me in some way. I'm really into poetry i like to read it but it seems difficit to write it. I really enjoy thinking over what I've read and how did it impact me? I don't like reading 500 pages full of a book which doesn't even make sense, but when it comes to "Chicks Up Front" it a very relaxing book, and in some way i like this book i know that sometimes i miht get bored reading a book, but in this case i dont get bored at all reading this. THE END! XOXOXOXOXOXO

I first heard Sara Holbrook present her poetry at a teacher conference in Orlando, Florida. She performed (yes, performed, not simply read) a few of her "kid" poems, which we all loved. Sara closed with "Chicks Up Front", the title poem, and I was moved to goosebumps and tears. I have since had the fortune of hearing her perform the poem many times, and it never loses its ability to grab me. I have read the book at least four times, and each time a poem speaks to me and makes me smile for a different reason. I have this book in my classroom, and I have purchased copies for all the members of my family.

So, as i sit in creative writing class my teacher pulls out a book. This book is called "Girls Up Front." Not thinking much of it i still scribble thoughts in my notebook, she yells to me telling my this will interest me. Sure I thought. I began to listen. The words flow from Sara Holbrook's pen to paper to my heart. She speaks the trusth in every piece. There are many different levels to each of her pieces. And honestly i was captivated by evey poem in the begining. Then it was almost like the book changed and her style changed. It became something unlike the first six pieces or so. Then it changed back to the way it was in the begining. Simple telling it how it is writing. I'm 17 years old and a women almost triple my age gave me the book to read and we both connected with the piece. On the same level and a different one. It is definatly worth your money.
