I invite you to travel with me on this journey as we recall a Barbados of long ago. The Barbados of the mid-20th Century was poor, with pockets of comfort and smatterings of wealth. But, for me, it was a more gentle, more together Barbados. I take you the reader through habits, customs and activities of that time as seen through my eyes. As Independence dawned, some of us put our hands to developing our nation. Many had opportunities to travel for education, development and leisure. And so, I share my travels from Juneau, Alaska, to Nagoya, Japan; through Europe, to Israel and Kenya, and within our own region, soaking up the customs and mores of these far-flung lands. You'll live with me the strivings of women of the Caribbean, as else where, to achieve equality and empowerment; or the struggles of both children and adults with disabilities, to be counted, recognized and accepted. It is my hope that you will warm to Dr. Maria Montessori and her method of education. You'll smile, you may be pensive, but just remember: this is My Story. I hope you find it fascinating.
