Independently inspected accomodation guides to small, unique hotels, B+Bs, pensiones and restaurants with rooms. With maps and location indexes. This description may be from another edition of this product.
Great descriptions, unbelievable quality photos; compact. Never having visited Italy befoe, we wanted to travel in teh countryside, in Tuscany and the Lake District. We used the 'Editor's Choices'. Our first stay at Villa Simplicitas near Lake Como was perfect, like we were visiting friends, fabulous service and food, locally made aperitifs. It was inexpensive and fabulous. Just perfect. It set the tone for the trip, and what a relief to find, after driving from Milano and flying in from California. We stayed at other places and were perfectly informed by this guide. There's nothing as valuable as relief from worry when traveling in a foreign city, without speaking the language well.
Terrific

This `charming' series sparkles with photographs that stress the beauty of the finest - but not necessarily the costliest - small hotels across Europe (by country). Most hotels get a full page with a clear, revealing photograph, one or two beautifully written descriptive paragraphs and a shaded section with contact info, prices, etc. (Library Journal)

Best hotel guidebook around

I have used this book for at least four trips to Italy and have never been disappointed. It is for people who like to experience the character of small hotels and their proprietors (don't bother with this book if you only stay at hotel chains or travel with groups). One modest hotel from the book, out in the middle of the Marche, had the best homemade food at its restaurant that I've had in all of Italy. It lists hotels in a wide range of prices (for those of us who don't need to spend $200 a night for a room), and is revised on a pretty regular basis. Indispensible.
