White Child Slavery During Slavery Times

Twelve-year-old Charlie has NEVER been treated very kindly. None of his family likes him, so he runs away. He becomes hungry and a stranger friend feeds him. But this is only a make-believe friend because he tricks Charlie and sells him to a sea captain sailing to America. Charlie must obey the captain and other owners to whom he is sold. Charlie can be free, but only after seven years of hard work. Charlie is not a slave, but a servant. His being white makes no difference to his third master: He is treated just as unfairly as many black slaves. But just like some slaves, Charlie decides he is not going to take unkind treatment anymore. He thinks of a plan and it works. You will feel sad for Charlie, but you will love the story's suspense. Charlie may never have lived, but such events did happen in early America. [This colonial period historical fiction is suitable for grades 2/3 to 5.] A Non-Workbook, Non-Textbook Approach to Teaching Language Arts: Grades 4 Through 8 and Up

Best Book Ever

I think this book would be very good for kids that don't usually like to read. In the beginning, it is very sad, so you want to find out what happens to Charlie. You keep reading because you like Charlie's personality and you care about what will happen to him.
